By VIVIAN YAN|Jun 22,2024

Chongqing - On June 20, Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Chongqing Municipal People's Government to boost cooperation in industrial digitization, green initiatives, intelligent transportation, and talent development.

Siemens AG (Berlin and Munich) is a technology company focused on industry, infrastructure, transport, and healthcare. Officially opened in 2006, Siemens Technology China is the company’s largest research branch outside Germany.

The partnership aims to speed up Chongqing's digitalization and decarbonization efforts, advance the modern manufacturing cluster system, and position Chongqing as a key hub for advanced manufacturing in China.

Yuan Jiajun, Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, and Dr. Roland Busch, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG, witnessed the agreement's signing on the spot.

Yuan highlighted Siemens' longstanding cooperation with Chongqing and called for increased attention and engagement from the company. He emphasized seizing the opportunities in Chongqing's modernization efforts to broaden and deepen cooperation, especially in digitally transforming small and medium-sized enterprises and urban digitization, aiming for more mutually beneficial outcomes.

"Chongqing is a vibrant city with distinct geographical advantages and a high degree of industrial clustering. It is currently facing a significant historic opportunity to modernize through digitization," said Dr. Xiao Song, Global Executive Vice President, President and CEO of Siemens Greater China.

He added that the agreement is a big step in Siemens' commitment to Chongqing. They aim to speed up the city's industrial transformation and upgrade, using their technology to help Chongqing become a high-quality development hub in western China.

Siemens began cooperating with Chongqing in 1995, establishing an office there in 1996, which was later upgraded to a branch in 2010. With expertise in the digital industry, intelligent infrastructure, and smart transportation, Siemens supported the construction of Chongqing's metro lines and participated in building the Chengdu-Chongqing national hub cluster, including several data centers.

Since 2018, Siemens has been a member of the Chongqing Mayor's International Economic Advisory Council, actively contributing to the city's economic development. Dr. Xiao Song currently serves as an economic advisor to the Mayor of Chongqing.
