Inaugural China Chongqing Science and Technology Film Week Opens, Partnering with Italy's Terra di Siena Int'l Film Festival

Chongqing - On June 26, the First China Chongqing Science and Technology Film Week was grandly inaugurated in Chongqing's Yongchuan District, themed "Science and Film Coexist, Illuminating the Future".

The opening ceremony featured a spectacular visual and auditory performance titled "A Century of Light and Shadow: A Journey Through Time," highlighting Chinese cinema's evolution from the Battle of Mount Dingjun to The Wandering Earth. This captivating show took the audience on a nostalgic voyage through the illustrious history of Chinese film, setting a luminous tone for the commencement of the First China Chongqing Science and Technology Film Week.

The "Western China Film and Technology Innovation Center," a joint initiative by Yongchuan District and the China Research Institute of Film Science and Technology, was officially inaugurated during the opening ceremony. This center is dedicated to independent research, standard setting, achievement transformation, and the application promotion of key film technologies, aiming to elevate and modernize the Yongchuan film industry.

Moreover, Yongchuan District, in collaboration with the China Research Institute of Film Science and Technology, launched the nation's first science and technology film digital technology and service platform, the "Science and Technology Film Digital Asset Platform." Utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, computer vision, computer graphics, and artificial intelligence, this platform efficiently manages the entire lifecycle of film digital assets, including collection, storage, editing, distribution, and trading. It also ensures secure and controllable digital asset sharing and trading services through digital watermarking and blockchain technology.

At the opening ceremony, Yongchuan District signed cooperation agreements with prominent film companies such as Huaxia Film Distribution, Youku, iQiyi, Migu, Huawei Cloud, and technology film ecosystem enterprises, including Phenom Films, Hongzhou Culture, and Tiantu Wanjing. These partnerships will support Yongchuan in building a Western China Technology Film City, advancing the industrialization of Chongqing's film sector. Additionally, several high-caliber film projects signed agreements to be filmed in Yongchuan, further catalyzing the development of the local film industry.

The first Golden Digital Cinema Awards were also unveiled at the opening ceremony. Huawei Cloud MetaStudio, the film Born to Fly virtual filming project, and 23 other enterprises or projects were honored for their outstanding self-developed technologies, technological innovation applications, and exceptional visual effects. Jiang Haiyang, Chairman of the China Film Association's Film Digital Production Committee and a national first-class director, stated that the Golden Digital Cinema Awards aim to promote the integration of advanced film technologies and artificial intelligence, thereby enhancing the development of film technology in the audiovisual field.

Notably, a delegation from Italy's Terra di Siena International Film Festival also attended the opening ceremony and signed an agreement with Yongchuan District, establishing a sister festival relationship. The Terra di Siena International Film Festival, renowned for its focus on independent films and its 27-edition history, will collaborate with the China Chongqing Science and Technology Film Week to foster technical exchanges and creative synergy, propelling outstanding works onto the global stage.

From June 25 to 30, the film week are hosting a myriad of events, including a film and technology innovation exhibition, high-caliber thematic salons, the national college students' 48-hour virtual production competition finals, master classes, a young filmmakers support program, film project venture capital forums, and screenings of science and technology films.
